Designing a robot enclosure for rotomolding

Design

Start with a system layout that identifies sensors, batteries, cooling, maintenance and the precision chassis. Assign the molded cover a defined role instead of expecting it to provide every structural and safety function. Review openings, mounting compliance, service clearances and potential interference throughout movement. The shell’s electrical insulation does not demonstrate EMC, ESD or radio performance. Validate the complete robot after the part is installed, including repeated service removal and the agreed impact conditions.

What to send for a useful review

  • Sensor visibility, heat, grounding and shielding
  • Critical interfaces, datums and tolerance
  • Static load, impact, vibration and mounting
  • Cleaning agents, disinfection and access

Agree acceptance before tooling

General guidance. Validate resin, geometry and assembly in actual operating conditions. This is not a product certification or production commitment.

Applications

Robot, AMR & AGV housings

Evaluate covers, bases and service enclosures for mobile robots. Large curved hollow forms may suit rotomolding. Mounting accuracy, cooling and sensor clearances need review. Precision frames, drives and safety systems require their own manufacturing routes.
